Fugro Lands Three-Year ROV Deal for India’s Deepwater Push
Fugro secures a three-year ROV contract to support ONGC's deepwater drilling campaign off India.
Vantage International Management has awarded Fugro Survey India a three-year contract to provide remotely operated vehicle (ROV) support for ONGC’s deepwater exploration campaign, with work extending to depths of 3,000 metres aboard the Platinum Explorer drillship.
The award builds on Vantage’s own $261 million drilling contract with ONGC, signed in February, and reinforces the broader trend of India expanding domestic offshore oil and gas exploration rather than relying primarily on imports.
ROV support at this depth range is a prerequisite for deepwater drilling operations — subsea inspection, intervention and well-related tasks that can’t be handled by divers — so the contract is a direct enabler of ONGC’s push into harder-to-reach reserves.
For Fugro, the deal extends its footprint in a market where deepwater activity is still nascent relative to established basins like the Gulf of Mexico or offshore Brazil, positioning the company for further work as India’s exploration campaign matures.
