French Superyacht Ban Proposal Still Without a Vote

A French bill to ban superyachts over 50m from national waters remains stalled, with no vote yet scheduled.

A private member’s bill from La France Insoumise proposing to bar 50-meter or longer yachts from French ports, marinas and territorial waters remains without a scheduled vote, though it continues to stir debate within the industry.

The bill, framed on environmental grounds, would impose penalties of up to 15% of a vessel’s value and allow for possible confiscation.

Industry groups have pushed back, citing Mediterranean yachting’s roughly €2.6 billion in regional revenue (€6.1 billion nationally) and its support for around 100,000 jobs. The proposal has no government backing and faces long odds of passage in its current form.

For now, this remains a watch item rather than a policy shift — the underlying tension between environmental regulation and coastal tourism economics in France is unlikely to disappear even if this specific bill stalls.
